I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE had one purpose and one purpose only: to sour and despoil the waters of the sexual revolution that had become completely assimilated into mainstream American life by the the late 1970's and to pave the way for the reactionary backlash towards it that would result in the birth of Reagan-era conservatism and the reinstatement of traditionally fearful and repressive modes towards unambiguous sexual desire that would explode into instututionalized paranoia with the advent of the AIDS crisis.

There is no need to carry on about it one way or another...it was nothing more than a perfectly-timed propaganda film released at precisely the right historical moment.
