TORONTO -- It's official: we've been granted a media pass to the TIFF for the fifth year in a row. As confirmation letters were sent out, so, too, were additions made to the Festival line-up, including Sofia Coppola's much-hyped Lost in Translation (starring Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson), Robert Benton's latest dirty-old-man escapade The Human Stain (starring Nicole Kidman, who's shaping up to be this year's Sarah Polley between this and Dogville), Alejandro González Iñárritu's 21 Grams, the cool-sounding follow-up to his compelling Amores Perros, and Joel Schumacher's Veronica Guerin, based on the tragic life of the titular Irish reporter who stirred a hornet's nest when she turned to exposing Ireland's drug scene. If that last film sounds like a déjà vu, especially coming from yours truly, that's because we reviewed the last Guerin biopic to play the TIFF, When the Sky Falls.
For an up-to-date list of the films playing in September, see our new Programming Guide.-BC
